Buying galvanized coils: what to specify
Grade, coating and finish details that make a galvanized steel coil enquiry more precise.
Define the substrate and dimensions
Provide the steel grade and governing standard, nominal thickness, width and tolerances. Confirm whether you need full coils, slit coils or cut-to-length sheets.
Specify the zinc coating clearly
State the required coating designation and the applicable standard. Coating designations and measurement conventions need to be agreed; a vague request for galvanized steel is not enough.
Choose the surface for its end use
State the required spangle and surface treatment. Forming, painting and visible-surface applications can have different requirements. Ask the supplier to confirm suitability against the project specification.
Agree the packing and inspection
Confirm coil weight, packing and shipment conditions. Request material documents and define inspection requirements before production or release. Availability and lead time should be confirmed in the quotation.
