Ordering H beams: dimensions, grades and shipment
A practical checklist for turning a structural section schedule into a clear purchase enquiry.
Use the full section designation
State height, flange width, web thickness and flange thickness, or the exact section designation in the required standard. Similar-looking beam profiles can have different dimensions and weights.
Specify the grade and standard together
SKSTEEL lists GB, ASTM, JIS and EN grade options. Grade names from different standards should not be treated as automatically interchangeable; confirm substitutions with the project engineer.
Confirm length and processing
List the required length for each section. For cutting or drilling, send drawings and tolerance requirements. Confirm surface treatment and marking before the order is released.
Plan the loading method
Section length and bundle weight affect container and break-bulk options. Ask for a loading proposal for your exact schedule instead of assuming every length will fit a particular container.
