How to prepare a steel RFQ
The details that help a supplier quote the right material, processing and shipment.
Start with the material schedule
List each product, its grade and governing standard. Add dimensions, tolerances, length and quantity on separate lines. An exact designation is more useful than a general product name.
Make processing requirements explicit
Attach drawings when you need cutting, drilling, bending or fabrication. State coating, marking and packaging requirements so these can be included in the quotation.
Define the commercial basis
Include the destination country and port, requested shipment window and preferred delivery term. Ask the supplier to confirm availability, lead time, inspection scope and which charges are included.
Compare like-for-like quotations
Check that every quote uses the same specification, quantity and commercial basis. Review exclusions, payment terms, inspection documents and packing before placing an order.
